When do I pick up my registration materials?
Pre-Celebration of Southern Literature—Discussions & Workshops (at the Chattanooga Public Library)
Advanced registration is required for the Pre-Celebration Discussions & Workshops. When you register, you will receive an eTicket from the Southern Lit Alliance via email. BRING YOUR eTICKET TO THE REGISTRATION DESK AT THE CHATTANOOGA PUBLIC LIBRARY. Doors open at 8:30 AM.
Celebration of Southern Litearture
Registration opens on Thursday, April 18, at 10:00 AM, 8:00 AM on Friday, April 19, and 8:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, in the lobby at the Tivoli Theatre. Your registration badge is your pass to all Celebration events. If you registered for the Saturday Keynote luncheon, a ticket will be included in your registration packet materials.
Where can I learn more about Celebration venues, and get directions?
All Celebration events except the Pre-Celebration Discussions & Workshops and the Saturday Keynote luncheon are held at the Tivoli Theatre, a fabulous historic showplace known as the "Jewel of the South." For over 85 years the grand theatre has entertained patrons, offering everything from silent movies to Broadway blockbusters. The Pre-Celebration Discussions & Workshops will be held at the Chattanooga Public Library, and the Saturday Keynote Luncheon will be held at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Can I purchase additional Celebration of Southern Literature programs?
One program is included with your registration. Extra copies are available for $5 each while supplies last.
Can I buy a one-day ticket to the Celebration of Southern Literature?
One-day tickets are available for $50. The Pre-Celebration Workshop tickets are available for $35 per person (limited to the first 150 registrations).
Do you offer a student price?
Full time students with a current school ID receive a Celebration of Southern Literature student price of $30, good for all three days. The Pre-Celebration discussions & workshops and the Saturday Keynote luncheon are not included.
Are there special events during the Celebration of Southern Literature that are open to the public?
Yes! Tickets for the Thursday evenings performance of An Evening with . . . Jill McCorkle, Lee Smith, Matraca Berg & Marshall Chapman, The Voices Behind Good Ol' Girls and the Friday evening film, The Rough South of Larry Brown, are available. Tickets are $10 per person for each—the musical performance and the film. For tickets, call the Southern Lit Alliance's office (423) 267-1218 or purchase at the door day of event.
Are refreshments provided during breaks?
Coffee is provided in the lobby during breaks. Bottled water is available for a suggested donation of $1 to support the Celebration of Southern Literature. Food and drinks are not permitted inside the theatre.
Is shuttle service provided for off-site Celebration of Southern Literature events?
* Saturday Keynote luncheon at the Chattanooga Convention Center: The Celebration of Southern Literature provides its own shuttles for Celebration of Southern Literature patrons who purchased tickets for the Saturday Keynote luncheon. Board the shuttle in front of the Tivoli Theatre starting 11:30 AM. (Saturday shuttles will be marked and are yellow school buses.)
Is Celebration of Southern Literature parking provided for attendees?
The Tivoli Theatre does not offer parking. We recommend the following options:
*Park and Ride! CARTA South Garage (ride the free electric shuttle to the Tivoli Theatre) Located at 1400 Market Street by the Chattanooga Choo Choo.
*JCB Lot—Located at the corner of 7th & Chestnut
*CitiPark Garage—Located on the corner of MLK Boulevard & Chestnut & Pine Street
*EPB Garage—Located between MLK Boulevard & West 10th Street, and Broad & Market Street
Will writers' books be sold at the Celebration of Southern Literature?
Wild Hare Books—the Celebration of Southern Literature official book vendor—will offer a wide selection of titles from all the writers, on sale throughout the Celebration. Cash, check or major credit cards are accepted. Check the schedule for the official book signing times.
Where can I eat during "meals on your own"? The downtown Chattanooga area offers many dining options to suit your tastes and wallet, including several within walking distance from the Tivoli. Dining guides and coupon booklets will be available at the Information Table in the Tivoli lobby. Food and drinks are not permitted inside the auditorium.
Can I purchase video/audio tapes of the event?
At this time, no plans have been made to record Celebration of Southern Literature sessions.
How many people attend the Celebration of Southern Literature? Can I meet the writers?
On average, 1,000 people from across the country attend the Celebration of Southern Literature. There are scheduled book signings and breaks between events, at which time many writers mingle with attendees. Check the Celebration schedule for details.
What do people wear to the Celebration of Southern Literature?
Guests are welcome to wear comfortable, business casual clothes to all events. The weather is usually mild in Chattanooga in early April, but cool temperatures are not uncommon, especially in the evening. It would be wise to bring a coat or jacket.
The Southern Lit Alliance (formerly the Arts & Education Council) celebrates Southern writers and readers through community education and innovative literary arts experiences. We do this through our programs, the Celebration of Southern Literature, Education Enrichment for children and through Special Literary Events.
